Sunderland Association Football Club’s losses grew during the 2022/23 season, despite increased season ticket sales.

According to newly filed records, turnover increased from £25.8 million to £35 million in the fiscal year ending July 31, 2023,

while losses increased from £7.8 million to £9.6 million.

Gate collections grew from £9.4 million to £10.6 million throughout the season,

while TV and media revenue increased from £3.2 million to £10 million.

During the year, the team returned to the EFL championship and reached the play-offs, losing to Luton Town, who were promoted to the Premier League.

When Sunderland returned, it sold a record 32,000 season tickets. That figure has now been surpassed.

The records detailed how, during the fiscal year, chairman Kyril Louis-Dreyfus and fellow stakeholder Juan Sartori purchased the club’s remaining shares from its former owner.

The article continued: “The club continues to invest in a strong core of talented young players and we believe this will provide the foundations for a continuous progression through the upcoming seasons that will culminate in our ultimate objective of returning to the PL.”
