It has been anticipated that Karamoko Dembele, an attacking player, will lead Pompey back to the Championship.

The Blackpool loanee is thought to be an exciting addition to the Blues’ attacking lineup,

which will likely require major surgery this summer. The News has learned that the 21-year-old,

who has had a significant impact on League One this season, is admired by head coach John Mousinho.

Dembele, who has a deal with French team Brest until the summer of 2026, played the most of the campaign while on loan at Bloomfield Road.

With the Tangerines, he had a significant impact, scoring nine goals and dishing out fourteen assists as his reputation grew thanks to his quick, straight running.

West Ham, Fulham, and Nottingham Forest. It’s unclear if Dembele will enter the first team this summer,

but that might open the door for him to play on loan the following season.

A move up to the Championship would be the logical next step in a career that has exploded in the last 12 months after making waves in the third tier.

If not, it would be a matter of finding out what his parent club has in store for the former Celtic player,

as Brest is poised to qualify for the Champions League following an incredible Ligue 1 campaign.

When it comes to a significant summer of recruitment, Pompey is targeting a level that is shown by the attention being paid to Dembele.

The emphasis will probably be on attacking areas, even if John Mousinho has said he’s content with the forwards he has available.

But in the upcoming months, teams will be paying close attention to players who can play as a number 10 and in wide areas, and Dembele is a good fit for those roles.

Pompey is eager for Abu Kamara to return following his stellar season as a 20-year-old on loan from Norwich.

This term, Paddy Lane has also shown promise, but Gavin Whyte and Anthony Scully

—both of whom came with great expectations—have had more difficulty.

Christian Saydee, who joined in June of last year as a striker, was actually used in a deeper role.

Mousinho will need to choose how best to use the former Bournemouth player going forward.

In Pompey’s favored 4-2-3-1 configuration, Callum Lang, who was brought in from Wigan in January,

is a versatile alternative who can play any of the offensive positions behind the striker.
