Following a failed 2023-24 season, the Milwaukee Bucks make a final decision on Doc Rivers’ coaching staff.

The Milwaukee Bucks’ choice to remove Adrian Griffin and replace him with Doc Rivers may have contributed to their dismal 2023-24 season.

And, with additional people on the coaching staff, Rivers has made the final choice on what to do next season.

Right before Griffin was fired, the Bucks were the Eastern Conference’s second seed, trailing only the Boston Celtics.

Following a failed 2023-24 season, the Milwaukee Bucks make a final decision on Doc Rivers’ coaching staff.

This represented season with All-Star guard Damian Lillard running the point with Giannis Antetokounmpo behind him, and the squad sported 30-13 record under Griffin.

During that time, the Bucks‘ offense ranked second in the league, while their defense fell to 21st out of 30 teams. It should be noted that Lillard was acquired in exchange for Jrue Holiday, a two-way guard, while Grayson Allen was released in free agency.

With these two players gone, Milwaukee relied heavily on Lillard and Malik Beasley to start games.

After Rivers arrived, the defense improved dramatically, particularly with Patrick Beverley joining the lineup before the trade deadline. However, by the end of the regular season, his record stood at 17-19.

When you combine that performance with the Bucks’ early playoff elimination, Milwaukee will need to make some significant adjustments this offseason.

Following the Bucks’ loss to the Indiana Pacers, attention has turned to Rivers’ stint as head coach. As a result, he confirmed shrinking the coaching staff for the upcoming season in an article written by Eric Nehm for the Athletic.

“The most difficult part is that this is a human business, and we have a lot of coaches who are already here, so you evaluate everyone,”

Rivers stated during his first news conference about the potential of reducing his staff. “You don’t come in with a set idea,” Nehm wrote.

The Bucks recently released Sidney Dobner, DJ Bakker, and Josh Oppenheimer. They were among the 11 coaches Milwaukee had at some point in February.

They currently have seven heading into next season. With a more lean and mean coaching staff under Rivers, the club wants to improve on its recent performance.

Add a pumped-up Lillard and Antetokounmpo to the mix, and the Bucks might just put everyone on next in the forthcoming season later this year.
