Villa have reportedly held preliminary conversations regarding a summer transfer for Leicester City attacker Kelechi Iheanacho.

The Nigeria international’s contract is set to end in June, and he has failed to accept a new agreement with the Foxes,

creating a free transfer window for several interested teams.

Villa are said to be interested in signing Iheanacho if he does become available for free.

The 27-year-old, who joined Leicester from Manchester City for £25 million in 2017,

has scored just six goals in all competitions this season, but he has mostly been used as a substitute.

That has been the story since Iheanacho joined the club, where he has played second fiddle to Jamie Vardy.

Patson Daka’s presence, as well as the recent acquisitions of Stephy Mavididi and Abdul Fatawu, haven’t helped matters.

reports Iheanacho has turned down many new contract offers from Leicester because he seeks a fresh challenge.

According to reports, Villa has been keeping an eye on the situation and is confident enough to have held preliminary conversations with the player’s representation.

Monchi, Villa’s President of Football Operations, reportedly spoke with Iheanacho’s camp on Thursday, May 9.

The encounter apparently took place in Greece prior to the Villans’ Europa Conference League semi-final second leg match against Olympiacos.

Would Villa and Iheanacho make a good match?

Signing an experienced Premier League striker for free is usually a sound business decision,

but Iheanacho will have to settle for becoming a squad player.

Ollie Watkins is unquestionably Villa Park’s first-choice forward, while rising prospect Jhon Duran is highly regarded.

If Iheanacho is content with coming off the bench and playing in cup competitions, that may be a decent move.

However, Villa must be careful not to sign a player who may grow dissatisfied immediately.

Perhaps it isn’t the perfect fit, but anything can happen during the transfer season, particularly in the free agent market.
