Even though the Africa Cup of Nations hasn’t started, Southampton manager Russell Martin has disclosed that the team has already reserved Joe Aribo’s return ticket, a Nigerian international, according to PUNCH Sports Extra.

The 34th AFCON will take place from January 13–February 11.

Nigeria hopes to win the AFCON for a record-breaking fourth time. They are grouped in Group A with Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea Bissau.

If they succeed in reaching their goal, Southampton won’t have Aribo until February, by which time the competition will have ended, much to Martin’s dismay since they had previously planned an Aribo AFCON return.Joe-Aribo

“He has been amazing, he has been so good, and we will miss him when he goes. We’ll just have to wait and see, and it also depends on how far they advance in the competition.

“We will just have to wait and see because we have flights scheduled for every possible combination.”

Aribo will miss the Championship games against Swansea City and Sheffield Wednesday, which may see the team break the record for the longest league winning streak.

He might be eligible to play Hull City on January 27, but if Nigeria advances to the round of 16, as predicted, he will also miss that match at St Mary’s.

In the event that Nigeria advance to the quarterfinal and semifinal, Aribo might therefore miss matches against Rotherham on February 3 and Huddersfield on February 10.
