Neil Lennon, who is now out of employment, might make a surprising return to management after meeting with Romanian club Rapid Bucharest.

The former Celtic manager has been out of job since October 2022, when he was fired from Omonia after taking the club to the Europa League following Cypriot Cup success.

Lennon, who has also coached Bolton and Hibs, has claimed that he has spoken with Republic of Ireland and Aberdeen about open positions.

However, Rapid have identified him as their primary target after an attempt to hire 78-year-old renowned manager Mircea Lucescu fell through.

Rapid Bucharest won the Romanian title 23 years ago, but fell on tough times and went destitute in 2016, forcing them to reform in the fifth division of football before battling back and regaining top flight football three years later.

They have lost seven of their eight league games this season, with only two games remaining.
