The Estadio Nacional in Lisbon has long been a favorite pilgrimage destination for Celtic fans.

Located on the outskirts of the Portuguese city, it is the location of the club’s greatest accomplishment in its 136-year history.

In 1967, a team of local Scottish players, all born within 30 miles of Celtic Park, overcame a star-studded Internazionale team 2-1 to win the European Cup, which is now known as the Champions League.

The 25th of May is a date that resonates with fans all around the world, as does the Estadio Nacional because of its importance in the Lisbon Lions’ success.

Indeed, Porto will face Sporting at the ancient ground on May 26th this year,

before the Portuguese national team hosts Croatia in Lisbon on June 8th for an international friendly.

Unfortunately, the stadium will be off-limits to the Parkhead faithful on and around these dates.

Just yesterday, the Portuguese Football Association addressed a notice to Celtic fans considering a trip to Lisbon.

They stated: [@CelticFCSLO on X]. “We would like you to inform Celtic FC fans

that our National Stadium (Jamor) will not be receiving visits on May 18th, 19th, 25th and 26th, June 7th to 10th,

because of the National Cup Final and National team match against Croatia.”
