FIFA has reportedly received threats of legal action from Fifpro and the World Leagues organisation over the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.

The Times reports that Fifpro and the World Leagues organization, in a determined attempt to thwart FIFA’s plans,

have written a strongly worded letter to the world football governing body voicing their concerns regarding the schedule of the expanded edition of the Club World Cup,

which is scheduled to take place in the United States in June 2025,

alongside other elite teams from around the globe. Notable European clubs like Manchester City,

Real Madrid, and Chelsea will be competing. They contend that there are negative effects from FIFA’s decision to extend both the Club World Cup and its schedule of matches,

including “economic harm” to domestic leagues and a “significant injury risk” to players.Manchester City FIFA Club World Cup

Furthermore, they charge FIFA with putting its financial interests ahead of the well-being of players and the sportsmanship of the game.

FIFA is urged in the letter to reevaluate the competition’s schedule and hold more talks over the global calendar.

This appeal is made in advance of the FIFA Council meeting that will take place in Bangkok later this month,

where important issues pertaining to the future of football competitions will be discussed.

The two organizations have already consulted with legal counsel over the situation, and should FIFA reject their demands,

they may file a lawsuit. The new Club World Cup is slated to take place from June 15 to July 13 and consist of three group matches and up to four knockout games.

Because of this, there have been worries regarding player weariness as they must return to action within two weeks after the Champions League final.

Meanwhile, the Intercontinental Cup, which will replace the current Club World Cup,

will continue to be held in December and will once again include the Champions League champions as the only participants from Europe.

The World Leagues organization and Fifpro support the tournament’s cancellation because they believe it is unnecessary and could be harmful to the wellbeing of the players.

FIFA is facing increasing criticism from important football community stakeholders,

and the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup could be in jeopardy.
