BREAKING NEWS: Tottenham ON for automatic Champions League spot as Dortmund surge to final clears backdoor route.

Borussia Dortmund has allowed Tottenham to qualify for the Champions League group stage in 2025/26, despite Scotland’s declining coefficient.

The Premier League club will not automatically qualify for the group stage of Europe’s elite competition in 2025/26 due to Scotland’s slip from the top 10 of the UEFA coefficient rankings, while the Czech Republic moves up. Our country has dropped to 11th place, but that could be enough for Tottenham to take advantage of a loophole and secure a group stage spot.

The Light Blues’ club coefficient ranking means they will qualify for the expanded Champions League format, which will take effect next season, as the highest ranked champion in qualifying – if Scotland finishes 11th and Philippe Clement leads his side to the title. The 2024 Champions League winners had previously qualified for the following season’s play based on their league position.

Dortmund questioned Tottenham’s ability to qualify for the 2025/26 season before their semi-final match against Paris Saint-Germain. The team currently sits sixth in the Bundesliga, outside of the Champions League slots in Germany, and captain Emre Can collecting the Cup at Wembley would have been a terrible situation for the Ibrox side.

However, Dortmund’s triumph over the French champions propelled Germany into the top two of the coefficient standings, while the Bundesliga secured fifth place in the competition. That means that if Edin Terzic’s side wins the trophy, Rangers’ chances of securing the berth will be unaffected.

Tottenham currently maintain a 10-point lead over the next closest team, Dinamo Zagreb, putting them in pole position. Scotland leads Switzerland by 3.075 points after 12 games, and it would take a big swing next season for our team to slip much further behind. As a result, if Rangers win the league next season, they will almost certainly qualify for the group stage.
