Unai Emery says the Europa Conference League clash with Olympiacos is Aston Villa’s “biggest challenge” of the season.

Following a shocking loss at Villa Park in the first leg of the semi-final tie last week, Villa is now behind 4-2.

Villa is aiming for a top-four Premier League finish, but Emery thinks their toughest challenge will come from trying to overcome the gap in Greece.

“This is the challenge tomorrow, the biggest challenge we’re going to face this year, playing in this semi-final,” Emery stated.

“I’m going to be genuinely competitive and seek for the finest performances tomorrow.

Naturally, it’s going to be really challenging away from home because of the potentially more challenging atmosphere for the home squad.

“In 90 minutes, we have to be focused with everything tactically, being in control of our emotions, set-pieces as well, everything.”Unai Emery extends Aston Villa contract to 2027 - BBC Sport

On May 29, Olympiacos or Villa will play Fiorentina in the championship game following the Serie A team’s victory over Club Brugge.

However, with their strength at Villa Park, where they will play next week in the second leg,

Unai Emery’s team will now feel assured of winning and securing their place in the quarterfinals.

John McGinn and Leon Bailey were among the players Emery benched in preparation for Sunday’s crucial matchup between Tottenham and the Premier League’s top four.

Moussa Diaby, one of the substitutions, had a chance to score right away but missed the mark after creating space for himself and shooting straight at Ajax goalkeeper Diant Ramaj.

Ajax, who are currently languishing in fifth place in the Dutch Eredivisie,

are nothing like the team that advanced to the Champions League semifinals five years ago.

However, in a first half where Emery’s team was pinned back and fortunate to survive,

they gave the Villa the runaround.

Before the home team’s great opportunity six minutes later,

Henderson gave them a scare on the half-hour mark when he blasted a 25-yard free-kick over Martinez’s crossbar.
