An excellent place to land for a two-time Super Bowl champion running back would be the Dallas Cowboys.

The Cowboys ought to take into consideration signing former Kansas City Chiefs running back Jerick McKinnon, as suggested by Kristopher Knox of Bleacher Report.

After playing as a complementary back for Kansas City for the previous three seasons, the 32-year-old running back is still

According to Knox, McKinnon is valuable as a pass-catcher, which Dallas could use in their backfield come 2024.

Knox notes that McKinnon is “a capable change-of-pace and receiving back, who could fill a valuable role in the Cowboys’ backfield rotation.”

“With the Kansas City Chiefs, he has flourished as a pass-catcher, catching 94 passes during the regular season in the last three years.”

With seven postseason appearances for the Chiefs in the last three seasons, the ten-year back has also been an important member of the team during the playoffs.

During the Chiefs’ 2021 postseason run, he started all three games and caught 14 passes for 165 receiving yards and one touchdown.

Only Travis Kelce and Tyreek Hill had more receptions and receiving yards during the playoffs than he did.

Knox notes that McKinnon has proven to be useful in the postseason as well, accumulating 74 touches for 477 yards in seven postseason games with Kansas City.

“His win-or-go-home game experience could be extremely beneficial for a Cowboy.”

McKinnon would be signed at a discount because he is an older back who specializes in pass-catching.

Considering the Cowboys’ estimated $4.5 million in cap space, this actually works well with the salary cap.

Additionally, Cowboys executive vice president Stephen Jones acknowledged that the team’s salary cap restrictions prevented them from signing Derrick Henry.

Jones stated during an appearance on Mad Dog Radio (via Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk) that “our situation is just, you know, and no one ever wants to say it, but it’s salary cap, and we just didn’t have the money to allocate to that spot in terms of where we were from a cap standpoint, knowing what we’re looking at with Dak [Prescott] and certainly Micah [Parsons] and CeeDee Lamb.”

There are several backs on the Cowboys roster right now, including Deuce Vaughn, Rico Dowdle, and Malik Davis, who are all returnees. It’s difficult to see Dallas acquiring McKinnon prior to the start of the campaign.

The likelihood of signing McKinnon increases if an injury occurs either before or during the regular season.
