It is part of the rumoured £1.5 million transfer deal that brought midfielder Jack Taylor to Portman Road this summer.

This condition was based in part on Taylor’s amount of games played during an Ipswich promotion season, and unfortunately for Posh, the 25-year-old only started seven Championship games.

Taylor also appeared in 26 games as a substitute. He scored three goals for the club, including two in the Championship.

Former Posh star Sammie Szmodics earned the Championship Golden Boot award after scoring 27 goals for Blackburn Rovers, who battled relegation for the whole of the season.

Szmodics scored six more goals than Southampton’s second top scorer, Adam Armstrong, after scoring twice in his final game of the season, a 2-0 victory over champions Leicester City.

Posh will receive another boost this summer if former striker Ivan Toney is able to complete his projected move from Brentford to a larger Premier League team. The 28-year-old, however, has been in poor form and has not scored for his club since a 4-1 home defeat to Liverpool in February.

Posh made more than £10 million with Toney’s sale to Brentford in August 2000, after spending £350,000 to Newcastle United two years before.

The Posh sell-on percentage of any future Toney fee is uncertain, although Newcastle will receive 30% of any profits made by Posh. Arsenal and Manchester United are among the teams reportedly interested in signing the England international.
