Cowboys Predicted to Add ‘Violent’ Playmaker to Pair With CeeDee Lamb

The Cowboys’ short-term running back problems and long-term quarterback problems have drawn a lot of attention, and rightfully so.

However, we should also take a time to consider that Dallas may also have an impending wide receiver dilemma. This is because the Cowboys still have a significant depth problem, even if CeeDee Lamb signs a lucrative contract extension this offseason as anticipated.

Lamb comes in first. Despite being No. 2, Brandin Cooks is about to turn 31 and is about to enter his last contract year. Michael Gallup, the third pick from the previous year, was abruptly removed following yet another incredibly unsatisfactory campaign. The No. 3 for this year is, well, we’ll get back to you on that. It might be 2022 third-rounder Jalen Tolbert. It could be little-used third-year man KaVontae Turpin, or sixth-round pick Ryan Flournoy.

The issue is that the Cowboys may have almost no one behind Lamb on the depth chart by this time next season. Therefore, the Cowboys are looking down I-35 at Austin in NBC Sports’ “way-too-early” 2025 NFL mock draft, and they have selected Isaiah Bond, a promising Texas receiver, for the position.

Isaiah Bond Is Just 5-11 and 182 Pounds

Despite his lack of size as a receiver, Bond might succeed in Lamb’s absence. NBC summarised Bond’s transfer to Austin, where he began his career with Alabama, as follows:

As a sophomore first-year starter last year, Bond (5-11, 182 pounds) caught 49 of 75 targets (65%) for 668 yards and four touchdowns. With an average of 2.02 yards per route, 12.8 ADOT, and 4.6 YAC, he performed 60% of his reps in the slot. This season, Bond will benefit from playing a WR1/2 role under head coach Steve Sarkisian’s explosive offence, and if he can put it all together, he has first-round potential.
Following coach Nick Saban’s retirement this offseason, Bond was among the top players the Tide lost. He said that his choice to travel to Texas was a business one.

“You make the best decision for your company, just like in the business world,” Bond said to ESPN. Right now, my draft stock is my company. I believe I’m positioning myself to have better draft stock and raise that.

In his sophomore year, Bond led the Crimson Tide in receptions with 48, ranking second among all receivers on the team with 668 yards and four touchdowns.

Cowboys Need Depth at WR

Bond’s size is expected to be a concern, although he has good hands and is roughly Cooks’ size (5-10, 189 pounds). “He’s coordinated with soft, reliable hands, and Bond shows the ability to adjust to balls thrown behind him, as well as a knack for digging out low throws,” the draft website NFL Draft Buzz said in its scouting report on Bond.

Bond demonstrated his strength in catch-and-run scenarios as well. He is a strong runner who breaks the first tackle and moves swiftly upfield after the catch. He can cover large distances rapidly.

The retooling of the offensive line and running back room this season marked the beginning of the Cowboys’ unquestionable overhaul at many pivotal points.

Next on the list is the contract and future of Dak Prescott.

However, the Cowboys must also add depth at the wide receiver position, regardless of what happens with Lamb’s deal.
