West Ham reach agreement with Julen Lopetegui to replace David Moyes as ex-Real Madrid boss turns down chance to manage Harry Kane at Bayern
Since leaving Wolves in the early part of this season owing to a disagreement with the club’s
leadership, Lopetegui has remained unemployed. According to The Athletic, Lopetegui has now
agreed to terms with West Ham and will take over at the end of the current campaign.
After a lacklustre season with the Premier League team, Moyes is facing pressure at West Ham.
After being destroyed 5-0 by Chelsea in their most recent match in the English top flight, the Scot’s
team has 13 losses and is currently ranked ninth in the standings. Although Sporting manager
Ruben Amorim was rumoured to be joining the East London team, Lopetegui now appears to be
taking Moyes’ place.
According to the article, German powerhouse Bayern Munich, who want to split ways with
Thomas Tuchel at the end of the season, had also expressed interest in Lopetegui. The Spanish
coach has his sights set on the West Ham position and will not waver from his decision, despite the Bavarians’ early Monday morning approach.
In their final two games of the season, the Hammers will play two opponents at opposite ends of
the table, saying goodbye to Moyes. On Saturday, May 11, there is a match against Luton Town
before travelling to Manchester City, who is vying for the championship.
