‘Petty’ – Chris Sutton slams Rangers boss Clement for Rodgers response ahead of Celtic clash

‘Petty’ – Chris Sutton slams Rangers boss Clement for Rodgers response ahead of Celtic clash

Chris Sutton has criticized Rangers manager Philippe Clement for his “petty” response

to remarks made recently by Celtics boss Brendan Rodgers.

On Saturday, May 11, the Light Blues travel to Glasgow to play the Hoops in an attempt to even the score at the top of the table,

but Rodgers has stated that his team is simply trying to have fun.

Following the Gers’ victory over Kilmarnock, Clement was quick to criticize the Celtic coach’ remarks as disrespectful,

but Sky Sports commentator Sutton has blasted the Belgian for his public response.

On It’s All Kicking Off (6 May, 4:15), he stated: “It’s both charming and trivial.” Glasgow, in my opinion,

is becoming more and more Phil since it affects everyone who attends or works in the city. It’s intense, a goldfish bowl.

In addition, he raised several valid comments, Philippe Clement, stating that they had fallen behind when he arrived.

Rangers did have it in their grasp, but they let it go when they lost at Ross County and gave up points against Dundee.

They were seven points behind at the time and are now only three.

The fact that Philippe Clement went out and conducted the interview with Sky in

which he stated they were also going to go have fun was remarkably trivial.

He had previously stated that it was disrespectful to his squad and something he would never say about an opponent.

“It just adds a little more spice to the game next Saturday, but you couldn’t quite make it up.”

This is one of the Scottish games that doesn’t require any more seasoning.

The Old Firm matchup between the teams on Saturday is crucial to the Premiership title battle,

and these remarks have only heightened tensions.

Although Clement won’t want to acknowledge it,

Rodgers was obviously attempting to minimize the importance of the game and

gain influence over the Gers’ dressing room, and it seems to have had the desired effect.

Hopefully, the Light Blues will ignore the remarks made by the Hoops manager and perform well on the field this weekend.

They will be the only ones enjoying themselves as they advance in the championship race

if they are able to secure an uncommon victory at Parkhead.

The two Old Firm managers’ verbal spat is probably far from finished,

and although Sutton might believe Clement has been petty, the Rangers manager will be eager to outdo his fiercest opponent.

In unrelated Rangers news, a commentator was perplexed by a “bizarre” incident that occurred

during the Gers’ game against Kilmarnock at Ibrox.
