OFFICIALLY CONFIRMED: Pep Guardiola has announced the departure of free-scoring defender Rico Lewis to Leicester City on a record transfer of €38.00m

According to The Sun via HITC, Leicester City are interested in Rico Lewis during current transfer window,

since Maresca wants to loan him. Pep Guardiola will not want to see the 18-year-old depart Manchester City after such a successful season.

Rico Lewis arguably the most unexpected member of Manchester City’s squad last season.

Pep Guardiola is normally careful about handing minutes to his young talents, with the exception of a handful.

However, he gave the 18-year-old adequate game experience to demonstrate his abilities in all competitions.

Lewis played 14 Premier League appearances before scoring his first goal in the Champions League group stage against Sevilla.

His rise in the squad compensated for Joao Cancelo’s unexpected departure in January,

with the Portuguese international receiving summer interest ahead of a potential move away from Manchester City.

Lewis played the inverted full-back job to the best of his ability,

and Guardiola seemed to like what he saw from the 18-year-old.

With Cancelo expected to go, the Catalan boss will focus more on the youthful full-back in the coming season.

Guardiola would not allow Lewis to leave, despite reports that Leicester City are interested in signing him on loan during this window.

He could have pondered temporarily letting the 18-year-old treble winner join another Premier League club.

However, the existing circumstances do not favour such a conclusion.

Enzo Maresca is still eager to bolster the squad as much as possible, since several players are being connected with a move.

Lewis is a good young star on the rise,

and Maresca must have realised how he may benefit his Leicester team in the coming season.

He will have been aware of the obstacles in chasing the goal, as Guardiola is a big fan of the 18-year-old.

Leeds are also interested in Lewis. But, like Leicester, they have no hope of changing Guardiola’s mind.

The Manchester City manager will hope for an even stronger season from the full-back,

as he may consider Lewis as a long-term successor for Kyle Walker.
