Jack Clarke: Key figures drop hints over Sunderland’s future as manager candidate speaks out.

The latest news from the Stadium of Light as thoughts turn towards the appointment of the next permanent Sunderland manager.

Supporters of Sunderland now have some optimism that Jack Clarke might stay at the Stadium of Light for the upcoming campaign.

The Black Cats hero, who has made 42 appearances across all competitions and scored 15 goals and four assists, has been a true highlight of a difficult season. This performance raised the possibility that Clarke would be lured away from Wearside, as Burnley, Lazio, and West Ham United were all mentioned as potential suitors for his services.

The rumors are still circulating and appear to be going strong into the summer, but Clarke has taken to social media to give the supporters of Stadium of Light a tiny bit of hope.

In a post on Instagram, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United winger said: “Another Season finished. Sadly not good enough over the course of the year. We will be back stronger. Over and out.”

Dodds reveals immediate plans

As his brief tenure as interim manager at the Stadium of Light draws to an end, Sunderland interim boss Mike Dodds is prepared to be “a little bit selfish.”

When the Black Cats fired Michael Beale in February, the 37-year-old filled in for him for the second time this season. With a very dismal 2-0 home loss to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, Dodds’ reign came to an end, as Sunderland finished the season in the lower part of the Championship table. Thoughts are now turning to his long-term replacement at the Stadium of Light, Dodds has disclosed his plans for the upcoming weeks.

He said: “I’m going to be a little bit selfish in the next few days and focus on me. Then after that point, I’ll be back in next week and we’ve got a number of meetings planned, so I’m sure there’ll be an update next week in terms of where they are with the process and who the person is going to be.”

Sunderland managerial candidate reacts to exit

In light of rumors that he is still being considered for the head coaching position at Sunderland, Will Still has thought back on his departure from Ligue 1 team Reims.

After joining the French team as Oscar Garcia’s assistant manager at Watford, the 31-year-old assumed interim leadership in October 2022. Still’s reputation was enhanced with a 17-game unbeaten streak that also set a new league record. However, his reign came to an abrupt end when he resigned from the team after a 4-1 loss against Clermont last month.

Reacting to his exit on Instagram, Still posted: “Three years of emotions, sharing, learning, victories, development, opportunities and pleasure. 19 matches forever written in history and now the end of a great adventure. Thank you to the Stade de Reims, thank you to the players, thank you to the staff, but above all thank you to the supporters of the Rouge et Blanc. See you soon.”
