‘He was excellent.’ Gary Lineker believes £3 million Nottingham Forest’s star has gotten better under Nuno Espirito Santo

Gary Lineker feels Nottingham Forest’s head coach, Nuno Espirito Santo, has significantly improved one of the club’s key players.

On Saturday, the Reds recovered from behind to defeat Sheffield United 3-1, earning a valuable three points.
Callum Hudson-Odoi scored twice, with Ryan Yates scoring his first Premier League goal in between.

Forest is now within touching distance of securing another season’s safety, needing only a point from the remaining two games.

Following the game, Lineker praised one Forest player who he believes has really stepped up this season.

Espirito Santo’s time at Forest has not been easy, and he will have to make some tough decisions at the conclusion of the season.

However, he has done some nice things at Forest, and he wasn’t dealt the finest hand when he initially arrived.

Lineker was assessing the game following the 3-1 victory in South Yorkshire, and he believes the head coach has significantly improved one player.

He stated on The Rest is Football podcast: “It’s great to see Callum Hudson-Odoi fulfilling the potential we all saw in him when he was younger at Chelsea and suffered that terrible injury.

“That was a horrible one. It’s taken him some time, and I heard him say in an interview that he’d rather be away from London, thinking and living football.

“He was brilliant.” Real belief in any player makes a huge difference, especially since Nuno Espirito Santo joined.

It’s hard to imagine Hudson-Odoi is only 23 years old when it feels like he’s been around forever.

He’s been a sluggish starter this season, but he’s already scored seven goals.

Hudson-Odoi’s two goals against Sheffield United exemplified his style, as he enjoyed cutting inside and attempting long-range shots.

Forest signed Hudson-Odoi for just £3 million, which is fantastic value for money.

The Reds and their recruitment model have received a lot of criticism over the previous two years, and some of it is warranted.

However, if Forest manages to stay in the Premier League this season, the task will be to find more players of Hudson-Odoi’s level.

The Reds will continue to develop Hudson-Odoi, and there is now a very good probability that the youngster will return to his peak form with Forest.
