When Nick Gargiulo’s name was called during the 2024 NFL Draft, the announcement pegged him as an offensive guard. However, the Denver Broncos swiftly cautioned against confining the former Ivy Leaguer to a single position.

General Manager George Paton elaborated, stating, “I think that he is a guard who can swing inside. He’s played center. [He is a] Yale transfer, really smart, tough, physical. Kind of fits our mold. So we think it’s a good get for where we got him.”

Drafted at No. 256 overall, Gargiulo embarked on his collegiate journey at Yale, where he started 25 games, predominantly at left tackle, from 2018 to 2022. Standing at 6-foot-5 and weighing 318 pounds, he made the transition to South Carolina in 2023, showcasing his versatility by playing both guard and center across 12 appearances.

NFL.com draft expert Lance Zierlein highlighted Gargiulo’s adaptability in his scouting report, noting, “The former multi-position starter at Yale proved he could hop into the SEC and make a solid contribution to the Gamecocks’ offensive front.” Zierlein emphasized Gargiulo’s size, length, and play strength, which lend themselves well to roster flexibility between center and guard positions. While not an overpowering force, Gargiulo’s proficiency in pass protection and run blocking, along with his athleticism, make him a valuable asset on the field.

Looking ahead to his rookie season with the Broncos, Gargiulo is expected to embrace a utility role, vying for a backup position behind established guards Ben Powers and Quinn Meinerz, as well as presumed starting center Alex Forsyth.

Gargiulo’s journey from Yale to South Carolina and now to the NFL epitomizes his adaptability and determination to excel at any position he’s tasked with. With his versatility and skill set, he’s poised to make a meaningful impact in Denver’s offensive line rotation.
