According to Louis Saha, Ange Postecoglou “is the first name that comes to mind”

when it comes to the Premier League’s first sacking of the season.

The Australian, who signed a four-year contract at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in early June,

faces a daunting assignment in getting the Lilywhites back in contention for a European berth.

Despite adding three new players to his roster and completing the permanent signing of Dejan Kulusevski following his 18-month loan from Juventus, Postecoglou’s playing group is far from complete.

Certainly not helped by all the speculation about Harry Kane’s future at the moment,

as the striker is now in the final year of his Tottenham contract.

Things could have gone better for the 57-year-old in pre-season,

with a cancelled friendly in Bangkok and Singapore’s Lion City Sailors replacing

Roma as Tottenham’s final opponents on their Asia-Pacific tour.

Postecoglou will, however, have spent some quality time on the training pitch with his team as he seeks to adopt his football philosophy and return Spurs to an offensive style of play. Because it will take time for his squad to properly adjust to his eye-catching brand of football, Saha believes Postecoglou’s job may be jeopardised if the club struggles for consistency in the early weeks of the season.

“This is a difficult question to answer,” conceded the former France international while chatting with bettingodds.com. “I believe the Tottenham job is difficult, as we have seen in recent years with numerous good managers struggling there. If Spurs do not start well in the first few games, then  Postecoglou I could see him being under a bit of pressure.

“The Kane situation has not been resolved, and it is a new manager with a new system, so there are many unanswered questions, so he is the first name that comes to mind when I think of the first sacking.

“It is really hard to predict what’s going to happen and in modern football even if you are a manager of a newly-promoted team and you struggle in the first 10 games you could get sacked which I just don’t think is fair at all, so it is hard to say.”

Spurs fans will be hoping that Postecoglou can guide the team back to Europe’s premier competition after finishing ninth in the Champions League last season and missing out entirely.

When asked who he thinks would finish fourth presuming Man City,

Arsenal, and Manchester United are the top three, Saha predicts Chelsea will finish ahead of Spurs and Liverpool.

“I challenge anyone to forecast the Premier League’s top seven spots this year; it’s impossible!

This season will be the best Premier League season ever. “I’m very excited,” he said. “City and Liverpool were fantastic for a long time,

but now we have Arsenal caught up, United will be up there,

Chelsea will be back this year after getting a new manager and making some smart deals.

“I think Chelsea will finish fourth this year as I think having Pochettino and no European football to worry about should make them a threat but there are will be so many teams battling it out at the top of the league this year and English football can be proud.”
