Ed Sheeran invites Ipswich players on night out after Premier League promotion

Sheeran has invited the Ipswich Town football team for a night out to celebrate the club’s promotion to the Premier League.

The Suffolk-born singer-songwriter, who sponsors the club’s football kits, posted a video to Instagram showing himself getting up early in Miami to watch the team defeat Huddersfield Town 2-0 at Portman Road on Saturday.

In a video, the pop star can be seen celebrating the win before approaching the players in their locker room and asking if they want to “go out” with him when he returns to the UK on Wednesday.

When asked where he was, he said, “I’m in Miami, I’ve got to pay for the sponsorship somehow.”

Sheeran captioned the video on Instagram: “Back to back promotions for @ipswichtown. Extremely emotional.

“It wasn’t long ago that I was there at Portman Road, watching them lose League One in front of 11,000 people.

“This is huge for the club, the town, and sport, proving that anything is possible with belief and commitment.

“Congratulations to all of the players, club members, and, of course, amazing Kieran.

“I’m sorry I can’t be there to celebrate, but we don’t want another betting company as our sponsor next season,

eh. Uppa Town. Emotional. “See you in the Prem.”

Musical pair Jedward were among the renowned faces to congratulate Sheeran,

writing: “What a childhood moment Ipswich are back, baby remember having the shiny crest in the sticker book congratulations.”

Ipswich will compete in the top division for the first time since 2002.
