Celtic have labelled Rangers’ decision to bar their fans from attending tomorrow’s women’s derby match as ‘hugely regrettable’.

Rangers said this morning that they have revoked all Celtic fans’ tickets for Sunday’s SWPL game at Ibrox.

According to the Ibrox club, this decision was made because to security worries of high-risk fans infiltrating the game while no fan base segregation would be implemented.

Celtic have now confirmed the decision, stating that Rangers had several measures to assure Hoops fans’ safety at the game.

A club statement reads: “It was informed to Celtic Football Club early this morning that all away tickets for tomorrow’s women’s SWPL fixture at Ibrox Stadium will be cancelled.

“At a time when so many people are working so hard to promote and support the women’s game in Scotland,

the decision to deny access to so many fans is extremely disappointing, especially given that the home club had a number of options to allow our fans to safely attend in such a large stadium and given the expected crowd.

“Celtic will consult with the home club about refunds for all tickets and will notify our supporters who purchased tickets as soon as possible.”

“We are pleased to inform our supporters that the match will be broadcast at the Sports Bar within Celtic Park tomorrow for any supporters who wish to attend.”

Rangers issued a statement saying, “It is with regret that all tickets purchased by Celtic FC supporters for Sunday’s match at Ibrox have had to be cancelled.”

“Intelligence acquired by Rangers and Celtic on Thursday suggested that large groups of ‘risk’ supporters had purchased tickets from the Celtic allotment.

“Rangers summoned an immediate operational meeting between both clubs and Police Scotland,

with Police Scotland stating that they would need to deploy a sizable resource on short notice rather than the fixture being originally police-free.

“Rangers is dedicated to ensuring that away supporters attend all of our men’s and women’s matches.

However, one distinguishing feature of the women’s game is the unrestricted,

family-friendly atmosphere, with many children watching these games.

“Taking all of that into account, Rangers’ security team decided it would be unsafe to allow these ‘risk’ supporters into the stadium,

and with Celtic unwilling to cancel just their tickets, the decision to cancel all tickets was taken.”
