JUST IN: Leicester City now reportedly close to agreeing new contract with fan favourite
After an all-around strong season in the second division, Leicester City is making a triumphant
return to the Premier League as the Championship’s winners.
With a 3-0 victory over Preston North End on Monday night, the Foxes secured the league crown.
This weekend, they will play Blackburn Rovers at home to wrap up their season.
After losing consecutive games, Enzo Maresca’s team has now won three in a row.
If Ipswich Town can avoid losing this weekend at home against 23rd-place Huddersfield Town, they
will likely join Leicester City in the Premier League. Leeds United is now in fourth position, three
points behind the Tractor Boys.
This season, both teams have kept Leicester City on their toes, and at one time, it appeared as though Leicester would have finished outside the top two.
And Jamie Vardy’s current excellent form has undoubtedly propelled the Foxes over the finish line.
The 37-year-old has scored eighteen goals in the Championship this season, including four in his previous three outings.
Vardy’s contract expires in the summer, and while there has been some discussion about what will happen to him, it appears that he and Leicester City are almost ready to reach an agreement.
