DONE DEAL: Bayern Munich have signed Brighton Roberto De Zerbi, personal terms agreed as the Tactician will leave by summer

As vacancies at Liverpool, Barcelona and Bayern Munich have come and gone and as Brighton slipped into the bottom half, the Italian must instead focus on rebuilding his own reputation

Arijanet Muric, the goalkeeper for Burnley, might not have won the trophy he was hoping for,

but he still has a solid season ahead of him. Unfortunately for him, Brighton will win goal of the month in April.

Which, if awarded, will be by default: Albion’s lone goal in April came from Muric’s incapacity to manage a meek back pass at Turf Moor.

And when Roberto De Zerbi’s Buccaneers finished as the fourth-highest scoring team in the Premier League last season,

or when they had the most goals in the division going into the October international break, it certainly didn’t seem plausible. They currently have 2024’s second-fewest.

However, a week of European semifinals provides an example of how De Zerbi’s situation has deteriorated. The fee Bayern Munich needs to pay to appoint De Zerbi from the Premier League

It appeared that he would play these kinds of games the following season; the only question was whether he would play for Bayern Munich,

Liverpool, Barcelona, or another team. Maybe it would have been a different matchup for Brighton this year.

Instead, De Zerbi might have to make the adjustment to spending the spring of 2019 in Sussex as Albion drops into the Premier League’s bottom half and is no longer eligible for Europe.

And if there are worse outcomes, if it is overstated to state that he has a reputation to restore,

then De Zerbi’s downfall might have had a hubristic component for some. Considering his relative youth,

his significant coaching talent, and the ambitious nature of his tactical blueprint, it might only be transitory.

However, it appears that a different kind of desire backfired: similar to Ruben Amorim, a

nother rising star of the following age, he conveyed the idea that he had outgrown his current employers and that he was deserving of better.
