‘Huge disappointment’ – Pundit View: Leeds face Championship ‘double-edged sword’

Paul Robinson has expressed concern about Leeds United’s potential relegation to the Championship play-offs this season,

but remains optimistic that the club would qualify automatically.

While the Whites are only three points behind Ipswich Town in second place,

Daniel Farke and his team are counting on their Championship opponents to slip up against Huddersfield Town on the final day of the season.

If Leeds is to have any hope of winning an automatic promotion spot, the Tractor Boys must lose to the Terriers,

and they must win all three points against Southampton on Saturday, May 4.

“I haven’t given up, but playoffs… I don’t enjoy the playoffs. Nobody can predict them.

I haven’t experienced it directly, to not go up automatically. Burnley’s season in the Championship saw us automatically promoted.

At the time, there was nothing worse than being relegated to the play-offs.

Leeds United promotion prediction amid Championship play-offs

“But it’s something the players have to discover in themselves; they have to try again.

It is a lottery. Without the old cliches and all the old sayings, from a Leeds point of view,

it isn’t something they’ll relish should they end up in the play-offs.

“But when the final whistle blows in the play-off final, and they win, it’s one of the happiest days of their lives.

The playoffs aren’t enjoyable. When you look at the clubs going into the play-offs,

like as West Brom, Norwich, and Hull, the ones at the bottom who are on a roll want to be there.

“Leeds do not want to be in the play-offs, and it is a difficult situation.

They have both advantages and disadvantages.

It would be a major accomplishment for the clubs who aim to make the playoffs, and they are on a roll and in good shape.

Whereas Leeds or Ipswich will be massive disappointments. When they start, they will have two quite different mindsets.

Will Leeds United have to settle for the Championship playoffs?

Despite a solid campaign under Daniel Farke’s leadership, it appears like Leeds will have to settle for a Championship play-off position.

Ipswich appear to have secured the final automatic promotion slot and will need only one point at home against relegation-threatened

Huddersfield on the final day of the season.

Though this would be a significant loss to the Whites,

Farke’s previous experience in the division with Norwich City should assist guide Leeds back to the Premier League.

The team has demonstrated how fantastic they have been all season,

including struggling against Premier League opposition in the FA Cup,

which should see them defeat the likes of Southampton,, Norwich, West Brom or Hull City if needed.
