Daniel Farke part ways with Leeds United on promotion D-day over disagreement of players contract

Leeds United’s owners, 49ers Enterprises, have already made a decision on manager Daniel Farke’s future,

despite reports that he could be fired if the Whites’ quest to regain promotion to the Premier League is unsuccessful.

Leeds’ three-year time in the English top division came to an end last summer, with managers Jesse Marsch,

Javi Gracia, and Sam Allardyce all attempting and failing to stem the club’s slide to the Championship.

Former owner Andrea Radrizzani’s sale to 49ers Enterprises had not yet been completed,

the hunt for a new manager appeared to be stalled, and players left on loan or permanently.

Then the Leeds ship began to stabilise. Farke took over as manager of the club in early July on a four-year contract,

the takeover was completed, and while Tyler Adams and Luis Sinisterra were forced to leave the Championship team,

the German was able to restore order as they sought an immediate return to the top division.

The former Norwich City manager, who won the Championship twice with the Canaries,

also demonstrated his disciplinarian side, issuing an ultimatum to Wilfried Gnonto:

Knuckle down for Leeds and all will be forgiven for attempting to engineer a summer transfer,

but there will be no second chances if he tries to repeat his exit strategy.

Fast forward to the present, and Farke has won 30 of his 51 games in charge,

with a win percentage of 58.82%, and Leeds are now in second place in the Championship with one game remaining.

However, third-placed Ipswich are only behind on goal difference, and a point against Coventry City on Tuesday night will propel them above Farke’s side. Then, on the last day of the season,

they play relegation-threatened Huddersfield Town, while Leeds face fourth-placed Southampton at Elland Road.

In previous years, 90 points in a season would have resulted in automatic promotion,

but this time around it may only result in a playoff spot.

However, the fact that Ipswich, who promoted from League One last season,

have a lot smaller pay bill and a significantly lower budget may put additional pressure on Farke to bring his team out of the level.

Furthermore, with Leeds winning only one of their previous five Championship games and losing first place in the process,

a rising number of fans are questioning if the 47-year-old is the ideal man for the Elland Road job.

Daniel Farke is fired; 49ers deliberate on German’s future

Following Friday’s 4-0 loss to Queen’s Park Rangers, Football Insider reports that even if Farke does not lead Leeds to promotion,

there will be ‘no thoughts’ of replacing the former Borussia Monchengladbach manager.

The article says that club officials have been impressed with Farke’s achievements,

particularly when they went on a 15-match undefeated streak at the start of 2024,

erasing a 17-point deficit to table-topping Leicester City in a couple of months.

If Leeds are not promoted, it may be more difficult to advance the following season since

they may have to sell some of their treasured assets in order to comply with profit and sustainability standards.

But it appears that the 49ers consider Farke as the ideal man to lead them to the top flight,

having done so twice before with Norwich.

After the QPR loss, Farke commented about the promotion fight: “One thing is certain,

we will never surrender up until it’s theoretically done.

I spoke before, there are two bullets, first is automatic promotion, the second is the play-offs.
