Asmir Begovic Celtic free transfer weighed up as Hoops told move fast or lose out on QPR star

Celtic have been advised to act quickly if they want to capture Asmir Begovic on a free transfer this summer.

The seasoned custodian, 36, is out of contract at the end of the season and has been linked with a transfer to Parkhead as Joe Hart plans to retire.

The Hoops have been linked with a number of goalkeepers,

including Patrick Pentz and Ugurcan Cakir, but Begovic would ultimately be the less expensive option.

Former England international Carlton Palmer feels Begovic’s current club, QPR,

will be anxious to keep the Bosnian after his impressive season.

And it might complicate Brendan Rodgers’ summer plans if he wants the stopper.

“Celtic’s Joe Hart is retiring after a fabulous career in the game,” Palmer told Football League World.

“He’s been outstanding at every club he’s been to,

and has been a very consistent performer, so Celtic are looking for a replacement.”

Apparently, they are interested in QPR custodian Asmir Begovic.

He’s been great for QPR this season,

and he’ll be out of contract this summer at the age of 36, nearly 37.

“Before survival, they didn’t want to talk about who they wanted to keep, but now that they’ve survived,

I’m sure they’ll begin contract talks with Begovic, who has played 46 games this season.

As a custodian, age is irrelevant,

and I’m sure they’d like to retain him in the building if they could.

“You cannot offer contracts until you know which league you will be playing in.

Now that they know they’ll be playing in the Championship,

I’m sure Begovic will be one of the players they want to sign as quickly as possible – he’s been excellent for them this season.
