CONFIRMED- Alexander Isak will be wearing the No.9 jersey at Newcastle this summer

For young fans or kit collectors planning to wear Alexander Isak’s name on Adidas-designed shirts this summer, perhaps keep your powder dry on release day. Newcastle United fans should expect a frenzy on June 7 when they reveal their new uniforms for the 2024–25 season.

Many believe the German conglomerate wasted a marketing opportunity, with a “9th of June” reveal more appropriate to Geordie tradition. They could have utilized that one for free.

Isak, who has 12 goals in his previous 13 Premier League outings, is the flavor of the month on Tyneside. Today’s youth will undoubtedly replicate his latest brace against Sheffield United, just as those from a bygone era lived vicariously through Jackie Milburn, Wyn Davies, Malcolm Macdonald, Andy Cole, Les Ferdinand, Alan Shearer, or even Callum Wilson, the man left pondering on the sidelines while the Swede bamboozles Premier League defences.

What do those great names have in common? The No.9 shirt is an honor that Isak has yet to receive. As it stands, he wears No.14, echoing the likeness of Arsenal legend Thierry Henry.

Isak leads the line for Newcastle as a modern-day version of the role. The aforementioned names were merciless goal scorers, but none, perhaps except Milburn, possessed the skill and finesse of Newcastle’s £63 million player.

However, this does not diminish his goal-scoring ability or his fair claim to carrying on his St James’ Park heritage. The No.9 jersey on Tyneside is unique, dating back to the great Hughie Gallacher in the 1920s, and is a true English football staple.
