Clément Lenglet’s future will be away and will not continue in Aston Villa, according to a ‘secret’ story in today’s edition of Sport.

The Premier League club signed the defender on loan from Barcelona last summer, and he struggled to break into Unai Emery’s plans in the opening few months of the season.

On Monday, Lenglet confessed that he nearly left Aston Villa in the winter transfer window after receiving offers from a few other clubs.

The 28-year-old, who made his league debut in December, has appeared 13 times in the Premier League this season. He has not appeared since the Villans’ defeat to Manchester City earlier this month.

Aston Villa do not have the option or responsibility to make the centre-back’s stay permanent, and the publication reports that he ‘will not continue’ at Villa Park after this season.

Prior to joining Emery’s side, the Frenchman had received several offers from Saudi Arabia, including one from Al-Nassr. He refused them in order to stay in Europe, but the scenario may change throughout the summer.

In recent weeks, Saudi teams and the La Liga side met to discuss market difficulties.
