After undergoing a physical on Thursday,

Newcastle is seeking international authorization to use the Sweden international for Sunday’s trip to Wolves,

which will be televised live on Sky Sports; On Thursday, Isak took a private jet to Tyneside.

The club filed the required papers in time for the weekend deadline,

even though they are still seeking international clearance.

On Thursday morning, Isak and his representatives,

Steve Nickson, head of recruitment, and Dan Ashworth,

sporting director of Newcastle, flew to Tyneside on a private plane.

After spending the last 48 hours in Spain,

Ashworth and Nickson had reached an agreement with Real Sociedad.

At his press conference on Friday morning,

Newcastle manager Eddie Howe expressed his desire to use Isak as soon as possible because his other striker,

Callum Wilson, will be sidelined for several weeks due to a hamstring injury.

“There’s no guarantee with these things, as it’s in other people’s hands, but hopefully,” explained Howe.

“He will probably need to train with us in

the next two days to be available to play….we’re very keen to see him get involved as quickly as possible.”

Howe acknowledges that even though Wilson’s injury is not thought to be serious,

Newcastle’s decision to pursue Isak was impacted by it.

The Newcastle manager stated, “We are hopeful Callum will only be out for a few weeks.”

We were always searching for an aggressive player

so I believe we adjusted our focus a little bit after that.

However, we’re excited to potentially sign Alex.”

Isak was too young to make much of an impact in Dortmund,

but he settled in with Real Sociedad.

His 17 goals in the 2020–21 La Liga season put him in the top six goal scorers in the league, making it a memorable campaign.

Newcastle is acquiring a seasoned goal scorer with plenty of experience who,

more importantly, still has room to grow.

Although his greatest years are yet ahead of him, he can contribute today.

He is competent and youthful enough to go on this adventure with a rising club.
