If Ipswich Town defeats FA Cup semi-finalists Coventry City in their EFL Championship match on Tuesday night,

they will have taken a significant step toward securing immediate promotion to the Premier League.

It appears that Kieran McKenna’s team will earn back-to-back promotions,

which is an uncommon feat in the current competition.

The Tractor Boys, who are now in third place,

have the opportunity to pass Leeds United and move up to

the coveted second spot if they win at the Coventry Building Society Arena.

To guarantee their promotion, Ipswich Town will still need to match Leeds United’s outcome on the last matchday.

McKenna and company will have wasted yet another opportunity if they don’t get three points that evening.

The final game of a busy 2023–24 campaign saw Coventry City take on relegation-threatened Blackburn

Rovers in a hard-fought match. This was their fourth game in ten days. Liam Kitching’s third red card of the season,

a club record, and a lackluster first half aside, Coventry held Rovers at bay with ten men to earn a hard-fought draw.

Coventry is presently eight points behind sixth-place

West Bromwich Albion in the Championship going into the last two games of the season.

This season, the Sky Blues’ defense has raised some red flags.

However, they showed improvement as they recorded their eighth consecutive clean sheet against Blackburn.

For Mark Robins’ team, their next games at the Coventry Building Society Arena will signal

the conclusion of an exciting season. Coventry has done well at home, losing just four times in 21 Championship games, despite several irregularities.

In the meantime, Ipswich Town’s winless streak in the EFL Championship grew to

four games following a nail-biting 3-3 draw with Hull City. They led three times,

but Hull’s late equalizer prevented them from winning, so they were not able to take all three points.

Kieran McKenna’s team still has control over their future in the promotion fight, though, as they only need to finish in the top two with four points from their remaining games against Coventry and Huddersfield Town.

They won’t find much solace in breaking the 90-point threshold unless they can guarantee

Premier League qualification at the conclusion of the campaign. The Hard Tackle examines the possible lineups and strategies for each team.
