Newcastle United’s attackers have performed admirably this season despite the club’s injury problem in 2023–24; the Magpies have scored goals on 74 occasions, a total only surpassed by the top three teams in the Premier League.

Under Eddie Howe, Alexander Isak has dominated the top flight in 2023–2024. With 19 goals in 26 games, he leads the team in goals scored this year.

Anthony Gordon, a winger, has also performed admirably in front of goal this season, scoring double figures, and as a result, he received his first senior call-up to Gareth Southgate’s England senior team.

Though the two are in excellent form, Howe has been unable to find a third player to complete the Magpies’ forward line. Instead, the lethal tandem has frequently been partnered with players like Harvey Barnes, Miguel Almiron, and Jacob Murphy.

The manager of the Magpies could end the selection problems by signing a forward this summer who has definitely drawn attention with his good stats in Europe.

Newcastle interested in attacking signing

Newcastle is reportedly interested in signing Fenerbahce right-winger İrfan Can Kahveci, but they will have to compete with Sevilla and Rennes for his services, according to sources in Turkey via Sport Witness.

With his contract expiring in 2025, the 28-year-old may leave the Turkish team in the summer to avoid losing him to a pre-contract agreement in January.

According to the report, Howe’s team has established “official contact” with the attacker, who has stated that playing in the Premier League is his desire.

Given his Süper Lig figures, which see him sweeping the league and earning a large money move to one of Europe’s top leagues, the interest shouldn’t be shocking.

Kahveci would be a huge Almiron upgrade

This season in Turkey, the attacker has contributed 30 goals (18 goals, 12 assists), which is higher than Magpies attacker Gordon, who has only managed 21 goals and 10 assists in all competitions.

Looking at the two players’ stats for 2023–2024, Kahveci has not only destroyed Gordon but Almiron as well, albeit in a weaker division.

This season, the Turkey international, who makes £21k a week according to Capology, has averaged 5.1 progressive passes per game. Almiron, on the other hand, has only averaged 3.7 per 90.

With the ball at his feet, Kahveci has flourished, completing 2.4 takeaways each game, more than twice as many as the 30-year-old, who has only completed one per Premier League game.

The Fenerbahce forward has demonstrated impressive shooting skills as well, averaging 2.2 shots and 5.3 actions that result in a shot every 90. Despite his decent stats of two and 2.4, Almiron’s play is still far from the 28-year-old’s potential.

Taking everything into account, the Magpies should try to sign Kahveci this summer. The Turkish player is unquestionably an improvement over an aging Almiron, who may even leave St James’ Park.

Additionally, he would enable Isak to further enhance his already remarkable record of goals scored; the Swede’s ability to create opportunities in the closing third is crucial to his ability to score goals more frequently.

With just 12 assists this season, the Turk has elevated Howe’s striker to the possibility of winning the Premier League’s Golden Boot Award the next year.
