Liverpool is reportedly interested in signing Crysencio Summerville, a standout player for Leeds United, according to Fabrizio Romano.

With a new manager taking over at Anfield and the possibility of new players joining the team, Liverpool is preparing for a tremendously revolutionary summer.

Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara’s contracts expire at the end of the current campaign, and there have been several rumors tying additional players to the club in addition to Jurgen Klopp’s exit.

One of those players is Colombian winger Luis Diaz, who has been frequently linked to a transfer to Barcelona. The player and his family have expressed their desire for the move in the past.

The La Liga giants, who are struggling financially, don’t appear to be showing any real interest at this moment, but Italian journalist and transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano claims that a possible alternative has been found.

Speaking on his Here We Go podcast this week, Romano revealed details about Liverpool’s interest in Leeds United star Crysencio Summerville:

“Centre-back – they will sign a player in that position.

“Then, looking at some opportunities for offensive players, and talented players.

“What I am hearing is true that Summerville at Leeds United is one of the players they are monitoring.

“They sent their scouts multiple times – even before [Michael] Edwards and [Richard] Hughes arrived at the club – to follow the progress of Summerville.

“So now, let’s see what Liverpool will decide to do. But the player is really appreciated.”

Should Liverpool sign Crysencio Summerville?

The Anfield supporters should have some confidence in Michael Edwards’ ability to assemble a strong roster when he rejoins the team this summer, given he is a key member of the team that has won the most titles in more than thirty years.

Although he won’t be leading the recruitment effort with the new manager, Edwards will undoubtedly have a strategy in place to assign to Richard Hughes, the new sports director, when Hughes joins the team next month.

Although Summerville, 22, is playing at the Championship level right now, which may cause some supporters to have second thoughts, he does have Premier League experience and has shown that his quality is far above that of many in the second division.

According to SofaScore, the gifted Dutchman has made 42 appearances in the Championship and has so far scored 19 goals, recorded nine assists, and created 17 great opportunities. He has also averaged 1.2 shots on target, 3.4 ball recoveries, 1.4 tackles won, and 5.7 duels won per game.

In addition, Michael Owen, a former striker for Liverpool, is among the many who have waxed poetic about Summerville in the past. The pundit now claims the young winger was “really exceptional” for the goal he scored against Tottenham Hotspur the previous season.

With that being said, it would be interesting to see whether Liverpool will make a concrete move for the Championship star this summer and their chances of securing his signature for a small fee will depend on whether Leeds successfully get promoted back to the Premier League or not.
