Brett Veach: There’s no indication that Travis Kelce is slowing down

Brett Veach: There’s no indication that Travis Kelce is slowing down

Travis Kelce, the tight end for the Chiefs, will be 35 early in 2024, but the team isn’t concerned that his output will decline in his twelfth NFL season.

On Monday, Kelce and the organization came to an updated agreement that will see him earn $17 million this season and $17.25 million the next two.

With that, Kelce is now ranked #1 among tight ends in the NFL, and the Chiefs are clearly betting that he will stay there.

Chiefs General Manager Brett Veach stated following the announcement of the contract that “every now and then you have one of these guys that are outliers,” and Kelce is one of them.

He claimed that during the team’s practices, the tight end appears to be “28 years old,” and they are starting to notice indications that he is faltering.

“There are very few people who play this far into their thirties, but it does happen. Travis is one of those unicorns in the profession, so we’ll celebrate this with him and hopefully continue to ride this thing even longer,”

“So, we’ll just have to wait and see. But I’ve seen no signs of [Kelce] slowing down and everyone notices the kind of postseason he had, and he just found that extra gear and these special ones, these special players are always able to find that extra gear.

Travis could do it,” Veach said, citing Adam Teicher of ESPN.com. “Travis can do it.” Kelce finished the 2023 regular season with 93 receptions for 984 yards and five touchdowns.

His 32 postseason receptions for 355 yards and four touchdowns contributed significantly to the Chiefs’ victory in their third Super Bowl in the previous five years.

He’ll remain key to their bid to become the first team to win three consecutive super bowls.
