Celtic did not have to release players because the competition was not on the FIFA calendar,

so they prevented winger Yang Hyun-jun from participating.

Brentford and Stoke joined them, while one player from Fortuna Dusseldorf was released.

Hwang, the Under 23s team’s manager and temporary manager of his nation,

has come under fire after his team was ousted on penalties by minnows Indonesia in the Asian Under 23s Cup quarterfinals.

South Korea missed out on the Paris event, marking the first time they have missed out on qualifying since 1988.

The top three teams in the tournament were guaranteed Olympic qualification.

Even though Hwang accepted blame, he pointed to the inability of Brentford, Stoke,

and Celtic to release players as a primary cause of their subpar play.

“First of all, I am the coach, and I accept full responsibility,” he declared.

“Yet, there were uncontrollable events, including certain European teams’ inability to release players.

“Yang Hyun-jun, Kim Ji-soo, and Bae Jun-ho were guaranteed to participate when I personally visited Celtic,

Brentford, and Stoke City.

“However, because every player was nearing the end of their season and in a critical position,

the clubs all declined to release their players when the tournament arrived.

“What actions could I take? I went to every one of them.

“Yet, it’s true that there wasn’t enough planning for a backup plan in case the European players didn’t show up.”

Tomoki Iwata, meanwhile, claims that his J.

League experience keeps him from feeling the pressure of the Premiership title competition.

The midfielder believes that his experience will help him lead Celtic to victory against

Rangers this season after helping Yokohama F. Marinos defeat Kawasaki Frontale to win the title in 21/22.

He stated: “Because it’s comparable, going through that pressure in Yokohama in 2022 is definitely helping me here at Celtic.”

“This season still has a few games left, but I don’t feel anxious or insufficiently confident before them.

“We have our own style of play at Celtic and as long as we prepare properly to play our own way,

we’ll be ready to get the results we want in the title race.”
