Man City FFP: Guardiola’s side ‘could be relegated to the Championship’ after ‘big update’

According to sources, Man City may be demoted to the Championship due to their 115 alleged infractions of the Premier League’s financial fair play regulations.

After defeating Brighton 4-0 on Thursday, the Citizens are still in the lead to win the championship.

This victory would be their second since the Premier League brought 115 charges against them in February of last year.

Richard Masters: The matter will eventually come to an end on its own
Premier League CEO Richard Masters responded earlier this week to a question about whether a second

Man City victory while the accusations were still pending would harm European league football:

“It’s not for the football authorities to start being selective about who they would like to win the league.

“It’s important to remember that you’re in danger right up until the last day. On May 19, who knows where we’ll be?Man City boss Pep Guardiola

“Obviously we can’t comment on the case, the date has been set and the case will resolve itself at some point in the near future,

and I cannot make any further comment on it,” Masters continued during his speech to the European League’s general assembly.

The case will be heard by an independent committee later this year, but most definitely not before the present campaign concludes.

A ruling in the case might not be made until the following year due to the seriousness of the charges.

When the charges were first brought, Man City declared that they were in favor of an impartial panel reviewing the case in order

“to impartially consider the comprehensive body of irrefutable evidence that exists in support of our position.”

“As such, we look forward to this matter being put to rest once and for all,” the club continued.

Man City’s financial fair play case is “unlikely to see their financial fair play case concluded before the end of next season,”

according to a “big update” provided by Football Insider yesterday.

The Citizens’ forthcoming hearing date has not been disclosed by the Premier League, however reports indicate it could happen in October of this year.

However, the club’s legal team has refuted those allegations thus far,

and they will probably fight back against any penalties that the Citizens might be facing.

This implies that it might take an additional year to resolve the case, which might mean that a settlement won’t happen for at least two years after the initial allegations were made.

Man City has consistently maintained that, since the Premier League’s announcement 14 months ago, they have done nothing wrong.

“They have successfully bought time and organized their arguments in advance of the hearing, which is now scheduled for later this year.”

It is possible for Man City to be dropped to the Championship.
Pete O’Rourke of Football Insider has now added that Man City “may be demoted to the Championship

due to issues surrounding the integrity of the league following the 115 charges aimed at them, but they are unlikely to be relegated to League Two.”
