Crysencio Summerville exit verdict shared at Leeds United as four ‘quality’ signings mooted

Summerville was prevented from leaving Elland Road following the Whites’ relegation from the Premier League last season.

The Dutchman has been outstanding for Leeds this season, yet his 19 goals and nine assists may not be enough to secure promotion.

When asked if Summerville is likely to leave United when the transfer market opens, Goodman told MOT Leeds News that “Summerville made it clear he wanted to leave.”

“But Leeds encouraged him to stay, and he’s reaped the benefits by being a standout player and appearing to belong at a higher level, which he definitely does.

“Leeds’ only hope of keeping him is if they are promoted. Do I see one of the major teams stepping in for Summerville if Leeds United, one of the country’s largest clubs, is promoted? Probably not.

“If Leeds are promoted and are then able to add three or four quality players to their XI, I think he’d enjoy the Premier League in a Leeds United shirt.”

Leeds’ automatic promotion ambitions appear to be dismal after they lost form at the worst possible time.

However, with one game remaining, finishing in the top two is still possible, and the play-offs provide a safety net.

If Leeds do win promotion, whether automatically or through the play-offs, Summerville will need to be at his best.

Only Sammie Szmodics (29) and Adam Armstrong (33) have more direct goals in the Championship this season than the attacker.

Given that he has previously been linked with some elite teams, notably Liverpool, promotion is Leeds’ best hope of keeping Summerville.

The goal is to be hopeful and hope that Leeds United begins the 2024-25 season as a top-flight team, with Summerville in the starting lineup.
