Leeds United play-off dates confirmed if Whites miss autos with 3 potential opponents in semis

The Whites were granted a top-two lifeline following Friday night’s 4-0 thrashing at QPR on Saturday evening,

while automatics opponents Ipswich Town were beaten to a thrilling 3-3 draw at play-off-chasing Hull City.

The draw brought third-placed Ipswich level on points with Leeds,

but Daniel Farke’s Whites remained in the division’s second automatic promotion spot due to a plus seven better goal difference.

Ipswich, on the other hand, still has a game in hand, which will take place on Tuesday evening at Coventry City,

a team that cannot finish in the top six. On Saturday’s final day, Ipswich will play relegation-bound Huddersfield Town,

while Leeds will face fourth-placed Southampton at Elland Road.

However, Southampton’s defeat at home to Stoke City this weekend has set Russell Martin’s team up for fourth place,

while Leeds will almost certainly finish third if they lose out on the top two.

As a result, United’s prospective play-off dates have been confirmed, following the EFL’s schedule confirmation.

Leeds, as the third-placed ending team, would play in the first play-off semi-final,

with the first leg taking place on Sunday, May 12 at 12.30pm, away at the sixth-placed finishing side.

West Brom are presently sixth, one point behind Norwich City and two ahead of seventh-placed Hull,

which means the Baggies, Canaries, and Tigers may all face each other in the semi-finals.

As part of a massive double-header, the second semi-final will be played on the same day at 2.30pm at the fifth-placed finishing side.

Leeds would then play the second leg at Elland Road on Thursday evening (May 16), with an 8 p.m. kick-off.

The second semi-final second leg is scheduled for the following night at Southampton, with an 8 p.m. kickoff.

Southampton is set to meet either Norwich or West Brom in the other semi-final.

Hull might mathematically finish fifth, but their goal differential makes it unlikely.

The Championship play-off final will be held at Wembley Stadium on Sunday, May 26, with a kickoff time to be determined.
