Referee Nick Walsh has come under fire from Rangers goalkeeper Jack Butland for his

“terrible decision” to caution him during Sunday’s 2-1 Premiership victory against St Mirren in Paisley, according to Kris Boyd.

The Sky Sports analyst criticized the referee for his decision to book the Light Blues No. 1 in the

second half following a forceful collision with Toyosi Olusanya of Saints during an attempted clearance.

With Saints pursuing a late equalizer, Butland was forced to sprint off his goal line as

Olusanya attempted to latch onto a long pass over the top.

The Gers stopper got to the ball first before clattering into his onrushing opponent.

After the coming together, referee Walsh stopped the game,

presumably to check on Olusanya’s condition.

However, the referee subsequently gave Butland a yellow card and gave the home team a free kick.

Boyd, a stunned former Ibrox star, called the judgment “an absolute disgrace,”

and many spectators inside the stadium believed Butland had defeated Olusanya due to his momentum.

“I must say as well the decision after that to book him was an absolute disgrace,” a seething Boyd admitted.

“He’s came and cleared it, Olusanya has run into him and Jack Butland has been booked for that?

I wouldn’t have liked to see it if that ball had ended up in the back of the net from that free-kick because that was a terrible decision,

to be honest.”

When questioned if the action warranted a red card, Saints manager Stephen Robinson responded,

“I think he’s come out to play the ball.” It’s accidental if there is contact.

He hasn’t returned it, but he seems to be acting completely kindly.

He made a fantastic save to keep Rangers in the game.  That shouldn’t be a red card, in my opinion.

At the SMiSA Stadium, Philippe Clement’s team narrowly defeated Dundee 2-1 to maintain pressure on rivals Celtic,

who played Dundee later in the day.
