JUST IN: Celtic reportedly interested in Southampton boss

Not just on the pitch, but off it as well, it seems like Celtic Park is being swept by winds of change. Parkhead has undergone several alterations in the last few years. Hopefully, with Mark Lawwell

gone, the transfer plan will get better. However, it appears that changes are also being made to the coaching structure at the youth levels.

Naturally, Celtic has had a long history of failing to advance talented academy players onto the first team. That means they still need to get better in that area.

According to the Daily Record, Adam Asghar, the manager of Southampton’s under-21 team,

Jonny Hayes, Charlie Mulgrew, and an internal candidate are all being considered for the

under-18 coaching position. To fill both positions at the club, Celtic is probably going to choose

two candidates from their shortlist.

There are currently two coaching openings with the Hoops. In addition to seeking an u18 coach,

they are also seeking a replacement for Darren O’Dea, who left the B team to take on the role of

route manager for the organisation.

Asghar has experience playing Scottish football. As a player, he rose through the ranks at

Motherwell and had periods at several other clubs, but his career was marked by disappointment.

Asghar previously worked as a coach at Dundee United and, prior to joining Southampton,

was a Sunderland player. Whether he manages to earn himself a return to Scotland in the near

future is still to be seen.

Giving the young players who have advanced through the club’s ranks greater chances is one thing

Celtic needs to make sure of. Of course, with the pressure to win nearly every game during the

season, that is easier said than done.
