Dundee vs Celtic postponed: Scottish Premiership clash called off as new date and venue announce

The field at Dens Park has been one of the most discussed problems in Scottish football in recent months,

following a series of postponements that left the SPFL scurrying for solutions.

Drainage issues and a wet spring combined to make portions of the grass soggy and unsuitable for professional football.

A Dundee match at home against Rangers was postponed twice,

and the third try required specialised pitch specialists to come in and assess if the pitch was playable amidst threats of relocating the fixture to another venue.

While the game went off without incident, some Celtic fans may be anxious about the surface with the league leaders scheduled to come on Sunday.

Brendan Rodgers, on the other hand, does not see it as a major issue.

Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers on the Dundee pitch.

When asked if the pitch had entered into his mind during preparations this week,

the Bhoys manager replied in a media conference on Friday [Celtic FC YouTube]:

“Not really. I saw some of the Rangers game. To be fair, I felt it could use some watering. It doesn’t [enter into my mind].

“I have to admit that in the two times I’ve gone to Dundee, the pitch has always been in excellent condition.

“I went up there earlier in the season to attend Cammy Kerr’s testimonial game,

believe it was around September – it was a touch slippy at the time, but that was earlier in the season.

“I have no concerns about it. The weather has been nice, and I’m sure they can add some water if necessary.”

The weather forecast predicts no late drama for Celtic vs Dundee.

The weather forecast for Tayside over the weekend predicts minimal prospect of heavy rain,

so there should be no late deluge that leaves Dundee with another pitch humiliation.

Celtic kick out at 3 p.m. on Sunday, and while the surface may not be perfect, there are no excuses for failing to secure three points.

Rodgers is already avoiding bringing it up as an issue, unlike other managers, so ideally the players aren’t even considering it.
