DONE DEAL: “A popular appointment” – Pundit reacts to emerging John O’Shea, Sunderland AFC

The temporary head coach of the Republic of Ireland, John O’Shea,

has been given further time while Stephen Kenny’s replacement is being sought.

For the squad’s friendlies against Belgium and Switzerland in March, O’Shea assumed interim leadership.

In June, he will guide the team against Portugal and Hungary.

The Football Association of Ireland (FAI) stated last week that it aims to have a permanent replacement for Kenny in place by the September kickoff of the Nations League.John O'Shea

The FAI apologized last week for missing its deadline to name a new boss, which it had previously set for early April.

For the June games, O’Shea has hired assistant coaches Paddy McCarthy and Glenn Whelan;

however, due to “prior commitments,” former Republic of Ireland manager Brian Kerr will not be returning as a technical advisor.

“I have been in contact with Marc Canham since the March fixtures and last week he asked me about stepping in again,

” stated O’Shea, who has stated he wants the position full-time.

I am thrilled to continue serving as interim head coach through June.

As I have stated previously, it is always an honor to represent your nation, and the work will get started right away.

It’s also wonderful to hear that the coaching staff and performance team will be sticking around for the June games,

since this will provide continuity for the players and staff.

“Brian’s obligations elsewhere mean he will regrettably miss the two matches in June.

He was a huge help throughout the March window, and I want to thank him for his efforts.

We will miss his advice and knowledge for the two games.”
