Celtic are in for a blockbuster finish to the season but a big summer lies in wait thereafter.

The Cremonese midfielder Charles Pickel was ‘given’ a chance to play for the Hoops, but he apparently wants to go to Celtic.

Right now, everyone is focused on a spectacular season finale that might result in a double for Brendan Rodgers.

Their post-split season begins this weekend, and they lead the Premiership by three points.

On May 25, they will play Rangers in the Scottish Cup final. However, behind the scenes,GLASGOW, SCOTLAND - AUGUST 05: A general view during a cinch Premiership match between Celtic and Ross County at Celtic Park, on August 05, 2023, in Glasgow, Scotland. (Photo by Craig Foy / SNS Group)

work is continuing in preparation for the summer, with upgrades needed regardless of how this campaign plays out in the end.

Getting a new midfield player is reportedly a key priority, especially because offers for Matt O’Riley are anticipated.

In order to that purpose, Football Scotland reports that the Hoops have been offered the option of signing DR Congo international Pickel.

The 26-year-old is reportedly attracting interest from Leeds and Preston,

although he would like to join Celtic if Glasgow showed a genuine interest. But whether there will be is still up in the air.

Somewhere else Celtic’s victory against Aberdeen on penalties over the weekend set up their final meeting with the Gers,

but a major Scottish match would not be complete without a controversial refereeing call.

The Dons believed they should have been awarded a clear penalty for a foul committed by Junior Hoilett on Cameron Carter-Vickers,

but the call was overturned for an earlier foul committed by Hoilett on Alistair Johnston following a delay for a VAR review.

But that didn’t sit well with an enraged Alan Hutton, who told Football Insider:

“It was a penalty – absolutely nailed on.” There isn’t an alternative. When the ball enters the box,

Junior Hoilett and Johnston jump up to claim the header.

After Hoilett gets a hold of the ball and touches it,

Carter-Vickers kicks him.

“Everyone in the stadium believed it was a penalty, and he knew what he did.

If the referee deemed Hoilett’s (Johnston foul) to have been a foul,

blow it and award it immediately. However, the game continued for five or six seconds before he brought it back.
