CELTIC BANNED from SPFL promotion this season as Scottish club champions don’t meet SFA criteria

Buckie Thistle, the Highland League champions, will not be eligible for SPFL promotion,

according to the SFA. As a result, East Kilbride will receive an automatic bye to the playoff final.

The silent implementation of a new rule requiring SPFL clubs to get a Bronze License in order to compete in the top four divisions alarmed Highland League clubs back in February.

Enacted in the summer of last year, it will take effect the following season. As a result,

are rushing to fulfill the requirements.Additionally,

Buckie has not made the cut and will not be able to play in the SPFL next season, according to a statement released by the SFA.

As a result, Mick Kennedy’s squad will receive a bye directly into a playoff matchup with the bottom team in League Two,

replacing their previous playoff matchup with East Kilbride,

the winners of the Lowland League.”The Licensing Committee considered a range of eligibility criteria in respect of Buckie Thistle’s application,” a Scottish FA representative stated.

Regretfully, the application did not fulfill the prerequisites to be granted a Bronze license.

“In light of the SPFL’s revised membership eligibility standards,

all SHFL and SLFL clubs were notified in writing in December of last year that the audit process would be expedited for those clubs with a chance of promotion.

Since then, Buckie Thistle and the Scottish FA’s club licensing department have maintained a regular communication line to inform the club of the

issues raised in their Club Licensing Report and to give them sufficient time to resolve them.

Regretfully, the club neglected to rectify these problems before yesterday’s licensing committee ruling.”

A representative for the SPFL continued, saying: “Every club was informed last summer of the necessity to have

a Bronze Scottish FA License to play in the SPFL. Unfortunately,

Buckie Thistle did not reply to the three follow-up letters that were written in October, February, or March.

“They did not submit an application for a grace period by the deadline of March 31, 2024,

and they are not in compliance with SPFL Rules.”

The SPFL Board is very sorry for Buckie and his supporters, but they are compelled to follow our rules.
