Just a few days after Todd Cantwell skillfully weaved his way into the Hearts box to set up Cyriel Dessers’ second of the game during that

Scottish Cup semi-final, a man who HITC understands is under consideration to join the Englishman at Ibrox embarked on an equally

breathtaking run before providing the finishing touch himself.

The Rangers target has stated in recent weeks that it would probably take

an offer in the region of 15 million euros to lure him away from his current employers. And the performance he put on on Wednesday

evening was a testament to why he is valued so highly.

Driving forward from inside his own half, Eduard Spertsyan coolly slotted into the far

corner after deceiving two Baltika defenders with a

fast change of direction.

Although Frank Lampard and former Rangers manager Steven Gerrard have been compared to Spertsyan for his goal-scoring abilities

from central midfield, there was something almost Kaka-like about the way the Krasnodar talisman glided towards the penalty area, slick

and silky-smooth, and finished a chance of his own while barely breaking sweat.

This is why Rangers like Eduard Spertsyan

Then, in a 3-2 victory, Spertsyan displayed his mastery of set pieces to set up Krasnodar’s third goal,

placing an inch-perfect cross directly onto the head of striker Jhon Cordoba.

The Rangers’ dead-ball specialists, James Tavernier, who turns 33 in October, and Borna Barisic, who seems like he’s on his way, could be

nearing the end of their Ibrox careers, although the latter seems to have plenty left in him.

Spertsyan, 21 assists to go with his 24 goals since the start of last season, would at least give Rangers a different option from corners and

free-kicks. Then again, while HITC have heard that the 23-year-old is indeed a player Rangers like,

it would be misleading to suggest that he is a particularly realistic option this summer.

Plenty of obstacles in way of Ibrox switch

One is the price tag, which is probably £13 million. a sum that would force Rangers to break a club record that has been in place for more

than 20 years. HITC is aware that Spertsyan is currently more likely to end up in the Eredivisie, possibly at PSV Eindhoven to take Malik

Tillman’s place. However, British-based clubs are not exactly being urged to hand

over large sums of money to Russian sides amid the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.

Even so, Spertsyan isn’t free, but dreaming is. It’s also safe to speculate about the attributes Spertsyan might bring to Ibrox after another

performance that won a Man of the Match award, a player named “one of the best midfielders in Europe”

by a former Krasnodar chief.

“Eduard is intelligent, diligent, a decent person, and a football player,” former Armenian goalie David Yurchenko

says of his highly influential countryman on Match TV.

He is the best football player of the current generation playing for the Armenian national team,

second only to Henrikh Mkhitaryan of

Inter Milan. Spertsyan has a lot of potential. He is quite capable.

Krasnodar and Rangers are engaged in a captivating championship match. With five games left,

Spertsyan’s team is only one point behind Zenit St Petersburg.
