PSG has assured Rangers, Celtic, and the rest of Europe that the Champions League will continue despite Super League aspirations.

Despite failed attempts in 2021, Barcelona and Real Madrid remain solidly behind the notion to establish a breakaway league. French champions PSG have consistently rejected approaches, while England’s major six have withdrawn their interest.

Nasser Al-Khelaifi, the head of Parc De Princes, has now disclosed that he has personally informed Barcelona counterpart Joan Laporta of his thoughts. Sports Management business A22 presented a new concept for the Super League that would include 64 European teams, giving rebels new hope. The European Court of Justice concluded in December that UEFA and FIFA wrongfully rejected plans for the breakaway league over three years ago.

Rangers and Celtic have already said they oppose any Super League ideas. Al-Khelaifi, who is also the European Club Association chairman, insists that the Champions League is the place to be. Celtic chairman Peter Lawwell is one of his vice-chairs.

Both Premier League clubs are competing for a spot in the redesigned Swiss-model Champions League next season. Celtic is presently three points ahead of Rangers in the league, and winning it would earn them an automatic position.

The PSG leader told El Mundo: “I have always stated that the Super League will not exist. The Champions League is the biggest competition in the world for everyone, and those clubs (Barcelona and Real Madrid) play in it because they know how important it is.“I asked him (Laporta), ‘When are you going to give up the stupid idea of the Super League?’ I’m sure he will give it up. It makes no sense.”
