McKenna: We Have Big Confidence in Ourselves

Before their Saturday night trip to Hull City, which is the first of three games that will determine whether the Blues earn automatic promotion back to the Premier League after a 22-year absence,

Town manager Kieran McKenna says his team has “big confidence” in themselves.

Town currently trails second-place Leeds by one point and leaders Leicester City by four points

in the Championship, but they both have a game coming up on Tuesday when they travel to

Coventry City.

The Whites will have completed their penultimate game at QPR on Friday night before the Blues

take on the Tigers, and Leicester may officially be promoted when they visit Preston on

Monday night.

With two games remaining for both teams, the Tigers are in seventh place, three points behind

Norwich City in the final play-off spot.

If the Canaries defeat Swansea at Carrow Road in the afternoon before Town’s match at the

MKM Stadium, Hull would not be able to finish in the top six, unless there was an improbable

change in goal differential.

McKenna is well aware that this Saturday’s game might be crucial for both teams.

He answered, “It is.” There has been a lot riding on every game this season in the Championship

because of how competitive it has been at both ends of the table and in and around the

play-off spots, which Hull is vying for on Saturday night.

Being a part of that is great, especially for the things we’re fighting for. It sets everything up

pretty nicely for the last week, and we know that in order to succeed, we must perform well

and get excellent outcomes.

However, we think we can accomplish it against any team in this league. Although we are aware

that it will be challenging, we are quite confident in ourselves, and on Saturday night we plan to

try and demonstrate that.
