Sunderland is still looking for a new manager, and it doesn’t appear like they will be appointing

someone long-term to take over the team this summer.

Since Michael Beale was fired in February, Mike Dodds has been the Black Cats’ interim manager.

The team has plenty of time to select a new manager, and they don’t appear to be hurrying.

If all went according to plan, the Black Cats would prefer to have a new manager in charge by the

start of preseason training so that they could spend some time working with the players and make additions when needed.

John O’Shea is one name that has been floated recently for the open position. It’s unclear if the

former Sunderland defender is a good fit for the position because he has no prior first-team

managerial experience. He most recently managed the Republic of Ireland in friendlies against

Belgium and Switzerland.

Carlton Palmer on John O’Shea’s chances of becoming Sunderland manager

Carlton Palmer, a former England international and current pundit, thinks that despite John

O’Shea’s lack of experience, he would be a popular selection at the Stadium of Light because of his connections with the team as a player.

Palmer stated to Football League World: “John O’Shea has entered the race for the Sunderland

position that is open. They still don’t have an appointment, and it seems like they’re holding out for

Will Still, the manager they were formerly associated with and who has done an amazing job

with Reims.

“O’Shea, a former player for Sunderland, has put himself out there even though he lacks

managerial experience. How is he going to gain experience if he isn’t given the opportunity to

perform the job?

John O’Shea’s chances of getting the Sunderland job

Despite being a former player, John O’Shea might not be the most well-liked hire at Sunderland due to his lack of managing experience.

The Irishman played 256 games for the team, but fans at Stadium of Light might be hoping for a bigger name—especially considering how long they’ve been without a new manager.
