Nottingham Forest could take legal action against Sky Sports for Gary Neville’s’mafia gang’ reaction to the club’s caustic post-match statement against Everton.

Idrissa Gueye and Dwight McNeil scored key long-range goals for the Toffees to secure a 2-0 victory in the clash of two struggling clubs

whose seasons have been severely hampered by point deductions.

Forest were perplexed by referee Anthony Taylor’s decision to overlook three penalty requests,

including a particularly notable handball call involving Ashley Young in the last stages of the first half.

Following their defeat, the East Midlands side rushed to Twitter and posted a strongly worded message lambasting VAR official Stuart

Atwell’s appointment as video assistance referee for the game.

The message reads: “Three incredibly terrible decisions, three fines not imposed, which we simply cannot tolerate.

“We informed the PGMOL before the game that the VAR is a Luton fan,

but they did not change him. Our patience has been challenged several times. “NFFC will now consider its options.”

Gary Neville, a Manchester United legend and Sky Sports pundit,

responded vehemently to Forest’s comments. He stated that Forest’s allegation was “like a mafia-gang statement”,

while Jamie Carragher similarly linked it to something that a fan would say in a pub.

Neville commented, “It’s like a mafia-gang remark.

I mean, really, what are they playing at?

I think anyone and everyone would sympathise with Nottingham Forest over some of the decisions they’ve made this season,

but they’ve treated defeat like a victory.

“It’s embarrassing to be treated like a petulant child. Some of what they’re saying,

such as inferring cheating because there is a VAR official that supports Luton, is a disgrace,

and they will pay for it. They will be disappointed with their football club’s history and how they depict themselves.

They’ve done it extremely successfully over a long time, and they’ll come to regret that comment.”

Those statements, notably Neville’s, did not sit well with the City Ground administration. According to Mail Online,

Forest’s legal team is drafting a letter to Neville’s current employers Sky about his comments and is considering suing the channel.

Since Forest’s initial statement, the row has continued.

The relegation-threatened club has demanding that the audio from three rejected penalty appeals be made public.

Everton defender Young, who was at the focus of the issue for one of the judgements, took to Instagram to mock the backlash.

He posted a photograph of Justin Timberlake’s song ‘Cry Me A River’ on social media with the message “old skool tunes for today”.
