Not long after acquiring a minority stake in United, Sir Jim Ratcliffe designated Newcastle CEO Ashworth as the team’s inaugural sporting director.

The 52-year-old, who is highly regarded, has agreed to move to Old Trafford, but the two teams have not yet reached a compensation agreement. Infuriated, the Magpies have placed the player on gardening leave.

According to reports, Newcastle is adamant about wanting a whooping £20 million, with £15 million paid up front and the remaining amount coming from add-ons.

Consequently, Jason Wilcox, the newly appointed technical director, will be in charge of player acquisition. Omar Berrada, the new chief executive, will support Wilcox until Ashworth arrives.

Ratcliffe has publicly criticized Newcastle’s handling of the situation, calling their requests for compensation “a bit silly.”

“I find it completely ridiculous that a highly skilled worker would spend an entire year and a half sitting in his garden,”

“We had a very mature discussion about Omar Berrada with [Manchester] City.” Once matters were resolved, we did so in a very cordial manner. They understood his motivation for accepting that challenge.

“You see, Pep [Guardiola] doesn’t want his players to sit in the garden for a year and a half after they finish playing.” That is not what he does. That isn’t how the legal system or the UK operate.
